Our next Freedom survivor is Dayana Luxx. Dayana was diagnosed with cancer in her early 30's after she found a lump in her breast in the shower. She had a biopsy done and was told it was benign, only to later receive a call after a doctor looked at her mammogram and noticed something wasn’t right.
After her diagnoses, she was terrified of dying. Someone close to her told her “You are not going to die, they have advanced treatments and you will live.” Taking those words to heart, she overcame the possibility of death because she knew she wanted to live. She had a son to raise and needed to be there for him.
To keep her spirits up, Dayana took daily walks in nature with her mom. They would stop to meditate, talk to the universe, pray and watch the hummingbirds that flew by. They envisioned the angels watching over her, helping her through the fight.
Sharing her story has helped her cope and heal through the years. She brings awareness to her followers, both young and mature, that early detection is key. She wants to help spread the message that mammograms and self breast exams are so important.
Her advice for anyone going through their own fight is to wipe out any negativity, BELIEVE you will get through it! She’s an advocate for seeking out support where you can. Follow her journey of self love on her Instagram @Dayanaluxx
Performing a monthly self breast exam, like Dayana does, is a free and easy way to recognize when something is suddenly different with your body. And did we mention, IT'S FREE!!! When you do this monthly, you will know what feels normal for you, if your body changes and when to contact a doctor.
Some symptoms to watch out for are:
- Dry, irritated or thickened skin around the nipple
- Discharge from the nipple (other than breast milk)
- Itching of the breasts
- Swelling of the breasts or surrounding areas
These symptoms may be completely harmless, caused by an infection or even something worse, like breast cancer. An easy way to know if you have any of these symptoms is by performing a self exam in the privacy of your own home.
What do you have to lose by performing your own monthly exam?
Obviously, we are NOT healthcare professionals, we just REALLY believe that this is important!!. Please talk with your doctor to see if it's right for you and follow their medical advice.
